Well that’s the first week of the English Premier League out of the way.

Interestingly, all of the away teams scored and both teams scored in all bar two matches. Philippe Coutinho is racing away with the Golden Boot with, erm, two goals so far.

Tonight sees Friday night football featuring Manchester United and Southampton. As far as I know, that’s a new thing!

Man Utd are very short priced favourites while Southampton have won the last two matches at Manchester United 0-1!

I’d like to put forward a betting strategy called ‘Sequencing’. It’s easy, really. Here’s how it will work tonight in the Man Utd v Southampton match. And look for that Southampton 0-1 winning sequence to end.

If you notice a 0-1 Southampton lead, take a risk and Lay Southampton and hope this sequence ends…

… As sequences do end!

Here’s another sequence for you.

Newcastle United lost their first two matches of the season, while installed as 3.5 favourites to win the Championship. Within that context, it’s a relatively long sequence that must end.

So, folks, what do you think will happen in the next match against Reading?

Cue a Newcastle 4-1 win!

Now I’d like you to tell me what the sequence was in the first two matches for Cardiff…

If you answered ‘Cardiff have failed to score in their first two matches this season’, go to the top of the class.

Interestingly, if you knew that Blackburn had conceded 7 goals in their opening two matches, then you can confidently suggest that Cardiff will score in their third match, as indeed they did.

Are there any other sequences to look out for?

Goal Scorers

This sequence follows the famous strikers such as Suarez, Messi, Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic. If these guys are playing and fail to score in a few matches, start getting interested in this sequence ending.

Suarez, for instance, failed to score in five consecutive matches for Barcelona! That is quite a sequence for a player such as him.

Cue the sequence ending and him scoring in five consecutive matches since then!

Head to Heads

I have already shown you how you can spot sequences which could logically end within head to heads.

www.soccerway.com is a great website for head to heads.

Use colour coding

www.soccerstats.com is a great place to look out for sequences to end.

Molde here are 7th in the league in Norway. Notice their run from 28th May to August 1st. That’s not the form of a team 7th in the league is it? Molde’s friend Scully is not a happy FBI agent!

Look out for the potential for this sequence to end. That comes when we see Molde playing 13th in the league, a side they beat 1-2 away from home.

Cue an end to the losing sequence!

As the new leagues – including La Liga and Serie A – are kicking off this weekend, look at sequencing as a way for you to dig out some bets or football trades.

Good luck sequencing and pattern finding and enjoy the exciting new Friday football.
