Let’s take a look at the year end results for two more of my favourite What Really Wins Money strategies…

Worst Races on the All-Weather

This is a very contrarian betting strategy, found in the Racing Testing Lab.

I initially began recording the performance of the favourites in the races that were statistically the worst for favourites. Inevitably these were handicap races.

However, I found (backed up by two years of results) we can actually make a profit as a Backer IF we employ a very special staking plan, called the Rolling Doubles staking plan. This staking plan is odds based and is explained here.

But as we come to the end of the year, how has this strategy performed in 2016? Let’s take a look at the rather peculiar profit graph…

This year’s £100 starting bank has turned into £334. I am happy with this performance.

The profit graph is very strange but we are in another year of profit so I am definitely onto something!

Those of you with The Staking Machine software can look for a staking plan called ‘Bookies Bank’, which has also profited over the last two years. In 2016 it has excelled and turned the £100 into £689!

As you see with the profit graph, it is not smooth sailing at all. But I retain an interest because this is the third year we have seen a profit with this form of loss retrieval at year end.

It may be worth sticking with for 2017. Remember high risk usually means high rewards… but also big falls!

This strategy is definitely one for 2017. I am very happy with yet another profitable year, although the profit graphs are far from conventional!

Lay the Big Fave

This is a rather obvious idea. The more horses a favourite has to pass, the more competition… hopefully the less likely said favourite is to win.

This is the second year of results and we have seen a profit. A £100 starting bank has turned into £284 as I type these words. I am very happy with this performance given the ease of finding selections.

Note I never record co- or joint-favourite races.

Here is the profit graph.

I hope you can see why I decided to share the strategy. The initial growth in the betting bank was very eye-catching. The strategy has flattened out since then.

Year-long profit is what I am interested in. From May to July this year, the strategy did nothing – you can see the sideways move.

August was a particularly poor month and since then we have seen the second surge in profit.

As you may have read in What Really Wins Money newsletters, you can increase your strike rate (and sometimes profit) by focusing on Laying only horses at odds of 4.5 or higher.

This is the case with this strategy which bumps the profits to 25 points for the year if Laying at 4.5 odds and over.

A 90% strike rate Laying at odds of 5.5 or over does reduce the number of bets but does protect you against long losing runs.

Next week: I’ll look in depth at two more strategies. Until then, I hope you have profitable runs of your own!
