I float like a butterfly, and sting like a bee. Alas, I look like a sumo wrestler – well, that’s just me.

You’ll no doubt recognise the quote (most of it, anyway) as coming from the lips of ‘The Greatest’ Muhammad Ali.

I am in Guernsey at the moment in the Channel Islands. Whenever I come to Guernsey, I tend to plunder the charity shops.

In the style of those M&S ads: these are not just charity shops, these areGuernsey charity shops! These have the leftovers from a variety of tax-dodging squillionaires. I’ve picked up some King Cobra golf clubs there before which cost me only £20.

And take a butcher’s at these!

These are boxing gloves apparently signed by one Muhammad Ali! Cost: a princely £20. I’m a gambling man. They’re well worth the shot, even unverified.

I am sorry, I just had to share that with you. Who knows, maybe I could be the new Lovejoy?

It’s a posh old do at Newmarket on Saturday. Do you think they’ll let me in if I wear my signed Muhammad Ali gloves?

These races are ripe for a past winners trends look. As you saw in my previous attempt, the selections are predominantly odds-based and can be quite accurate when you’re dealing with the cream of racing.

14:20 Newmarket – Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes

An eight runner race so each way betting is preferred to take advantage of three places. Since 2010 though, three favourites and three second favourites have won. The second favourites were all 11/4.

I would opt for an 11/4 shot in this race and Back said horse each way. You’d still get the majority of your stake back if the horse placed in the first three.

14:55 Newmarket – Chevely Park Stakes

In the last 10 years, it seems either the favourite or the second favourite wins this race.

There are six runners so only two places. Again, here, I would back the second favourite each way and hope the horse wins of course, but finishes second at least finishes.

15:30 Newmarket – Middle Park Stakes

Group 1 horses here. As befits a Group 1 race, there are no donkeys here. That is reflected in the 22/1 winner two years ago, 8/1 winner three years ago and 25/1 winner in 2011.

It is also reflective of the fact these are two-year-old horses. The value for me may lay in Laying an odds-on favourite here if there is an odds-on favourite.

Or if you want a punt, Back a horse at 20/1 to 25/1 each way and hope these high-class two-year-olds surprise.

16:10 Newmarket – Cambridgeshire

Excuse me while I exclaim: “CHARRRGGGEEE!” This is a 35 runner, 1 mile 1 furlong race.

Only two favourites have won in 10 years. The last two winners were 14/1 and the last horse called Third Time Lucky. Third Time Lucky for another 14/1 shot?

Only two winners over 16/1 in the last 10 years suggests we take our pick from the head of the market up to 16/1.

I would avoid the favourite and look at two or three selections given the field size, at odds of 8/1, 12/1 and 16/1. I would Back the 3 horses each way, of course.

These are my odds-based selections for an eye-catching card at Newmarket on Saturday. Good luck if you play.

I am off now to proclaim that I am The Greatest at finding gloves apparently signed by Mohammad Ali…
