The Masters Golf has begun in Augusta. How are the selections progressing?

I decided to avoid Tiger Woods. I only wish I had layed Tiger. He is out to odds of 48.

Jordan Spieth’s odds are as low as 3.2 and we are only half way through the Masters. Cash out now if you followed me and backed Jordan at 14/1.

Justin Rose is hanging on in there. He is the 8th shortest-priced player currently. His odds of 15 have drifted but he is still in there.

Charl Schwartzel needs to get going. No sign yet. Our old pal Fred Couples did not romantically roll back the years and lead early on.

Jordan and Justin therefore are the two still running for me.

New balls please!

From golf to tennis… The Davis Cup is being played this weekend.

This Davis Cup is a precursor to the outdoor clay season and the beginning of a sumptuous summer of tennis betting.

With race abandonments here, there, and everywhere, have you ever thought about tennis as a way to make a profit?

Next week is the 13th April – two days prior to Monte Carlo and I’ll go in-depth into tennis angles then.

In the meantime, get to know the following websites:

www.matchstat.com – click on ‘Today’s Matches’ and ‘H2H’ and you’ll be able to look at the form of the players.

http://www.tennisexplorer.com/ – keeping it simple, these are the two websites you need to get to know players.

Some research pointers…

  • Know the surface for today’s tournament.
  • Note player performance on all surfaces and in particular on today’s surface. (Check out Nadal on clay at Monte Carlo, for example.)
  • Note the rankings of the players. Logic suggests the bigger the rankings, the better the chances for the better-ranked player.

There is more in-depth research, but these three elements are fine to start.

And the key to tennis profits, folks, is…

…to bet in-play.

This is the key to success.

It’s how I backed World Number 2 Caroline Wozniacki at 55 Betfair odds (54/1) and won! I hope you’ll give tennis a go.

Next week I’ll also be looking at stats and the Flat. See you then. Fingers crossed Mr Rose puts in a good set of rounds at the Masters. And as to Jordan Spieth. Cash Out or stay in? You decide.
