This weekend it’s the turn of Newbury to provide us with top class racing ( there are 2 listed races as well at Newbury). The Lockinge runs on Saturday and has been won by the favourite ( and one joint favourite) in 7 of the last 9 runnings.

Last year’s winning jockey and trainer , Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien again provide the favourite this Saturday in Le Brivido who is currently at 7/2 odds.

The only other trainer to see 2 consecutive Lockinge wins in a row is Richard Hannon who did it twice.

Le Brivido will have to buck another trend. 10 of the last 12 winners were 4-year olds. Le Brivido is a 5 year-old.

8 of the last 12 winners of the Lockinge had a run at Newbury previously….Le Brivido has not.

11 of the last 12 winners of the Lockinge had at least one previous run over 8 furlongs…..Le Brivido has not!

12 of the last 12 winners of the Lockinge had at least 8 previous flat runs…..Le Brivido has not.

So, this Saturday at 15:40, are you with the favourite based on the strong performance of favourites in this race, or are you going to oppose the favourite who will have to do a bit of Past Trend busting this year in order to win?

Given 10 of the last 12 winners came from the First 3 in the betting, do we simply look towards Laurens and Beat the Bank who are the current 2nd and 3rd favourites? Each-way of course will cover the places?

On Sunday there is a high class meeting at Naas. Last year, this Meeting was dominated by 2 trainers – Aidan O’Brien and Mrs John Harrington. It was Mrs John Harrington, as trainer, who provided the biggest odds winners at 12/1, 5/2 and 10/1.

Aidan O’Brien’s winners came at odds of 10/11, 2/7 and 15/8

If this pattern continues, I will make an effort on Sunday to back all Mrs. John Harrington trained horses each-way.

There’s Bellakris in the first race, Marshall Jennings in the second race, In the Present in the 5th race, Flash Gordon in the 6th race and Boston Bruin in the 7th race. And Star Quality in the 6th race.

Has Mrs. John Harrington targeted this meeting of late?
