There’s some classy racing at Newmarket tomorrow so I thought I’d crunch the numbers and see what the 10 year trends reveal.

Backing 2nd favourites in class 1 races has turned a 40 point profit to Betfair Starting Price at this meeting with a 31% return on investment ( R.O.I.)

If you fancy a lay with a good probability of success, then there has been only 1 2nd favourite winner in 12 in 18 furlong races ( 2 mile and 4 furlong )  and only 2 out of 21 in 9 furlong races ( 1 mile and 1 furlong).

6 winners in 17 Group 2 races for 2nd favourites sees a 21 point profit to Betfair SP and a whopping 122% return on investment.

2nd favourites in maidens are best avoided at Newmarket this weekend.

And before I go…

Backing 3rd favourites in class 2 races yielded a 44 point profit to BSP and 48% ROI.

A similar points profit backing 3rd favourites in handicaps at this meeting tomorrow.

So , tomorrow at Newmarket, it might be better to avoid the favourites and look at 2nd and 3rd favourites only in those races and under those factors where they have thrived for the last ten years. ( and you might be able to use the insurance of each-way betting if backing ).
