There is a feast of puntable action this week gone, from the French Open tennis to Europa League, and upcoming Champions League football. Oh, and let’s not forget Epsom.
I did an article on the performance of favourites at Epsom’s Derby Festival meeting so if you have May’s edition of What Really Wins Money to hand, dig it out.
In that article I noted predominantly laying angles but for you potential backers, here’s something to chew on. ( stats from the last 10 years of this specific meeting at Epsom)
- Four-year-old non-handicap favourites won 8/10 races.
So if, over today and tomorrow, there are any favourites in non-handicap races aged four-year-old, they have an excellent record.
Some other stats for backers?
- Silvestre De Sousa, when riding favourites at Epsom in June, produced a 12.5 points profit BSP and 156% ROI. two winning favourites in three rides at Epsom last year.
- A recent trainer worth keeping an eye on is Simon Crisford. Two of his horses, when favourites, have won in 2016 and 2018, so it’s nice recent form.

World Number 1 Naomi Osaka , for example, was backable at odds of 7.00 in-play in her first match ( she struggled but won) and 4.00+ odds in her second match ( she struggled but won!). There is some great value to be extracted. Del Potro was backable at 11 yesterday in-play….oh and he won!
The Champions League Final
Do you have any angles into this all-english Champions League Final?
2 consecutive 2-1 Liverpool wins in the Premier League saw Liverpool score before halftime in both matches and for there to be a 90th minute goal in both matches. Prior to those 2 2-1 scorelines, there was a 2-2 with…yes…2 90th minute goals. Liverpool have won at halftime in three of their last four Champions League matches.
That’s a potential angle in for me. If the match is drawn coming to the 90th minute, lay the late draw.
Both teams have scored in 7 of their last 8 head to heads.
