It’s Aintree Grand National weekend! The weekend where my brothers and sisters send me an email or Facebook Messenger message: ‘Got any tips, Clive?’

‘Yes’, I reply. ‘Don’t eat yellow snow!’

I hate to spoil the party but this is a 4-mile 2-furlong, 40-runner handicap chase. And you want me to pick the winner!?

The world and his wife will be recounting to you the trends you should look for. You know:

  • At least 10 chase runs.
  • Age 8 to 11 (the horse not the jockey).
  • Run in three or more seasons.
  • 20–60 days since last run.
  • At least one chase win over 3 miles.
  • Carrying up to 11 stone 6 lbs.
  • No more than one fall in a season.
  • No more than two career falls.
  • Biggest chase win in a race with career money of over £30,000.

What will I be doing this Grand National Saturday? I’ll be following the market movers. I did this over Cheltenham and picked some big winners – indeed picking three of the last four winners on the final day (a day which ended with a 20/1 second).

You see, for me, liquid markets suggest accurate markets, and if you can read them, you can sometimes suss out those bookies ‘tells’, i.e. when they are running scared of a horse or two, or where they have received significant support for a horse or two in a particular race.

Do join me on Twitter @whatreallywins for a return of the market movers. I cannot promise as profitable a meeting as Cheltenham, but hey, I’m willing to give it a go and play up my Cheltenham winnings. The profits, I feel, are in the races other than the National!

See you on Twitter tomorrow for the first race. It will clash with my DRT live chat at www.drt.club but there is enough of a gap between races for me to do some market reading for you.

WRWM readers should be expecting April’s newsletter through soon.

This month I cover the interesting concept of ‘strategic betting’, as well as ‘each-way doubles’ – a great way to increase profits on an already proven form of betting. We also go all gangster and lay them bitches – I’m talking greyhound races of course. We’ve got the usual from the Patriarch and Statman, and one of my ‘Home-Grown’ strategies still has a 100% record this 2017 – ker-ching!

I hope to see you tomorrow @whatreallywins.

Meanwhile, here’s my National tip: ‘Stick a fecking pin in it!’
