I was just getting warmed up last week when I ran out of Market Mover races to tweet to you.

A 15/1 Betfair SP winner and a 10/1 nose-second were the highlights last week.

I am convinced these Market Mover strategies work in better qualifying races. I’ll put forward an article for August’s edition of What Really Wins Money on the subject.

Away from the horse racing we are edging ever closer to the beginning of the football season throughout Europe. The Premier League kicks off on 11 August with Arsenal against Leicester City.

Have you considered your football betting and trading angles? 11 August will be with you quicker than you think!

My preferred weapon of choice is in-play football trading. It goes without saying when you actually run a football trading service (www.drt.club).

I am, though, keen to uncover some bet-and-go football strategies for both the backer and the layer. In the run up to the new football season, I’ll pass on some of these ideas to you in time for the first kick-off.

The key to bet-and-go success, for me, is a specialisation: a focus on one or two niche betting markets.

Here are some initial ideas…

  • Lay the 0-0 in the halftime score market. Here we want to see at least a goal scored before halftime.
  • If 0-0 at halftime, expect a goal in the second half. Another good niche to specialise in. Remember folks: 0-0 at halftime will see both teams working for you to score that goal. After all, you cannot win a match if you don’t score a goal.
  • Both Teams to Score – yes. It’s a simple niche.
  • Odd/Even Goals market – yes, there is money to be made in this market.
  • +1 Goal market. This is a relatively new betting market at Betfair. If you back a team in the +1 Goal market, you are effectively giving that team a one-goal head start. This bet covers the draw. I think there is a lot of potential in this particular market.

Above is a list of some niche betting markets I am keen to focus on in this new season. Other niches you may like to consider, could include the following…

  • A specific league. German Bundesliga? Greek Super League? English League One? If you focus specifically on one league, you will have a head-start over your fellow punters.
  • Specific teams. Get to know a team inside-out. I focussed on Werder Bremen, for example, last season. I knew that their matches tended to see a goal before halftime and both teams scoring. You may want to focus on newly promoted sides with a view to opposing them. Or you may want to focus on teams like Newcastle United who entered the English Championship with pretty much a Premiership squad and a world-class manager.
  • Specific competitions. Make the Champions League your niche perhaps?

There is plenty of food for thought within this eletter. In eletters to come, I will be delving a little more in-depth into the world of football betting, to get you ready for the season to come.
