Selections for Saturday 25th October 2014

I wrote an article for my eletter on this subject, focussing on Banker Bets and showing you how we can profit from them.

I’ll list some apparent “bankers” in this post, and time permitting, will try to do this daily. I try to look for 1.1 odds or higher. The goal is to win back your initial stake and bank that immediately, then play on, banking profits every £10 or so.

This is not a strategy where I’m trying to create the biggest odds returns. I want a “banker”, a bet which is obvious.

Yesterday

805pm – Mgladbach v Apollon Limassol – 1.24 home – Apollon tend to concede a few in the Europa League 5-0 win

805pm – Torino v HJK Helsinki – 1.44 home – not really banker bet odds but I am taken with Torino’s clean sheets in the Europa League. If they can score , that should suffice 2-0 win

Tennis

12pm – Andy Murray v Kevin Anderson  – 1.17 Murray. Eyes still on London and a good showing in Valencia could help Murray secure that London berth. Anderson on his day is a troubling player. 2-1 to Murray

145pm – David Ferrer v Thomaz Bellucci  – 1.17 Ferrer – I saw 1.42 odds about Ferrer yesterday and toyed with including him. I do hope I have not missed the boat, as his odds have been lowered today ( usually the odds go up as a player goes deeper into a tournament). –  2-0 to Ferrer

5pm – Borna Coric v Rafael Nadal  – 1.11 Nadal. Seeing Nadal at 1.29 odds earlier this tournament against a player I had never heard of, led me to think Rafa had a niggling injury. He has since played superbly, and like Ferrer, his odds are much lower now. He’s in Spain and will be looking to go deep.  2-0 to Coric – and had I known Rafa had an up and coming Appendicitis operation, then naturally this would never be a banker. Do yer feckin research!!!

7pm – Roger Federer v Grigor Dimitrov  – 1.29 Fed – Federer v Mini-Fed it is being billed. Last night Federer showed his battling qualities coming from a set down to win 2-1. This is probably the riskiest banker bet today because if Dimitrov clicks, he will really test Fed. But Roger is at home in Basel and that surely must count for something. 2-0 to Federer – the first set was 7-6 and as tight as I expected.

 Football

17:30 UK Greuther Furth v FSV Frankfurt – 1.4 home – 4th v bottom of the league currently and Greuther tend to score 2 goals at home. A hope they can repeat that and FSV continue to under perform. 2-4 to FSV – Greuther scored 2 and I thought that would be enough. It wasn’t!

Faith in a Bundesliga 2 league match so early in the season – not really a banker is it?  These losses are avoidable. I could have just waited until today really as there are far better and more reliable teams.  The Nadal loss is a prime example of doing your research. Appendicitis is no small detail!!

Today

15:00 UK Dumbarton v Rangers – 1.25 away – a degree of solidity about Rangers in this Championship. Yes, for a banker I would prefer the side to be at home , to give us a better chance

19:00 UK Valencia v Elche – 1.36 home – an unexpected away loss to Depor is a concern. It was out of the blue. IF they can get over it, then Valencia should win at home. Their home scorelines this season have been either 3-0 or 3-1.

20:15 UK Arouca v Porto – 1.33 away – 2 away 1-1 draws is a concern for Porto but I see this as a time they can end that draw sequence against an Arouca side who have already lost to Sporting Lisbon and Benfica, the other 2 Portugeuse ” giants”.
