We then place only back the live bookmaker’s favourite. 2013 saw an excellent profit when backing between place only odds of 1.1 and 1.5 only ( Betfair SP)

The number at the beginning of the races listed below signfies the number of runners. This is key. 7 runners and fewer = 2 places and 8+ runners = 3 places

I must say I don’t like Brighton’s course and its undulations, particularly when it concerns the running of maidens. I have highlighted 3 maiden races today and these are always risky propositions because these are generally newcomers, and early in the season, some horses are coming back off a very long lay-off. Further, maidens are gambling races as stables keep their dark horses under wraps and smash into them at big prices late on.

But we’ll see how things progress today.
