Selections for Thursday 23rd July 2015

Each way betting – a background How do I go about my each-way selection process? In this post you will see a list of races which all have one thing in common. They are all 8/9 runner races as this is the shortest field which pays out for horses finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd . By selecting an 8/9 runner race, you immediately put the probabilities of selecting a horse to finish in the top 3, in your favour. Remember that your objective is to find a horse to finish in the top 3, with a winner being an obvious bonus. 1) we select only from 8/9 runner races 2) we make 2 selections. The first is called the Usual selection .

A usual selection is a horse who is near the head of the betting forecast and who looks like an obvious selection to finish in the first 3 at least. We then make a speculative selection. This horse is likely to be a bigger price and is selected because horse racing is inherently unpredictable and races are won by other -than the market leaders We want to be able to cover a bigger priced horse who might surprise.

On the 3rd May 2014, I selected just such a horse, Run with Pride, and he won at Betfair SP odds of 142, and paid 12 to place. 3) which brings me to my 3rd point. Use Betfair Sp for your win and place only bets . Why? Well Run with Pride won at odds of 142 using Betfair SP, and returned at only 33/1 with the bookmakers.

This is the background behind the selections you will find here. Make sure you check the place onlyterms at www.betfair.com. Some races may only pay out on 2 places. We want to see 3 places as it increases our probabilities of getting a return.

Yesterday

735 naas Betting forecast: 9/4 Stroll Patrol, 4/1 Newsletter, 9/2 Minalisa, 6/1 Letters Of Note, 9/1 Colour Blue, 9/1 Fort Del Oro, 14/1 Byzantium, 16/1 Maontri, 40/1 Oneoveryou.
usual Minilisa  – 8th 4.3
speculative Fort Del Oro – non runner

3rd in the betting and the last horse before the double figure odds horses. A 9/4 favourite I hope is not a rock solid favourite and is therefore vulnerable.
635 sandown Betting forecast: 7/4 Wekeyll, 11/4 American Artist, 5/1 Voyageofdiscovery, 13/2 Sonnetation, 11/1 Ravenous, 12/1 Dana´s Present, 14/1 Starlight Symphony, 20/1 Skinny Love.
usual American Artist  – 1st 2.77 win and 1.32 place
speculative Ravenous – 3rd 12.37 win and 2.84 place

The obvious choice is the 2nd favourite today as the usual selection. Ravenous is the last horse after the single digit odds horses and is my speculative choice today in a race which really lacks strong, obvious outsiders.
815 sandown Betting forecast: 9/4 Cape Castle, 3/1 Strawberry Martini, 5/1 Satellite, 11/2 Mystery Drama, 15/2 Haines, 9/1 Arcamante, 16/1 Norfolk Sky, 20/1 Laughing Jack.
usual Strawberry Martini  – 1st 5.7 win and 2.14 place
speculative Arcamante – 3rd 17 win and 3.96 place

Again I have opted for the obvious usual selection here. We do lack the strong obvious outsiders but a hope that Norfolk Sky and Laughing Jack do not place allowing the race to become a 6 horse race for 3 places, a 50/50 shot at placing.

My throat is a little hoarse after shouting for Arcamante yesterday who hit a low in running of 2.02. It looked like a race for the win between these 2 horses above. Arcamente alas ran out of petrol coming to the end. What a pity!

Today

550 leop Betting forecast: 6/4 General Macarthur, 9/2 Ceol Na Nog, 6/1 Whiskey Zulu, 7/1 Corstorphine, 7/1 Unicorn, 8/1 Restive, 16/1 Libyan Peace, 25/1 Tasty Ginger.
usual Ceol Na Nog
speculative Restive

I have gone for the 2nd favourite here . The speculative selection is the one just before the 2 apparent outsiders. It is a tight race if we take away the favourite and the outsiders .
650 leop Betting forecast: 13/8 Alice Springs, 2/1 Tanaza, 6/1 Turret Rocks, 10/1 Madame Thunder, 16/1 Prove The Point, 20/1 Miss Gossip, 20/1 Planchart, 20/1 Way To My Heart, 25/1 Santa Monica.
usual Turret Rocks
speculative Madame Thunder

This is a 2 horse race and as I have said in the past, Alice and Tanaza could as easily clog up 2 of the 3 places. That is the risk today. But with so many apparent outsiders, and with this being Ireland, I do hope for some Keystone Cops from the market leaders. It happened a few days ago if you remember and we backed a nice big priced winner.
605 limerick Betting forecast: 11/8 Antilope Du Seuil, 3/1 What A Jewel, 4/1 Duckweed, 9/2 Thanks For Tea, 10/1 Jesmond Lodge, 33/1 Princess Lir, 50/1 Three Oscars, 112/1 The Brock Inn.
usual What a Jewel
speculative Jesmond Lodge

What a Jewel is the obvious selection here. It could as easily have been Duckweed. Jesmond Lodge is the biggest priced horses under 33/1. There is a risk here that the front 4 in the betting will clog up the places.
330 sandown Betting forecast: 9/4 Fireglow, 4/1 Raaqy, 6/1 Bahaarah, 13/2 Alinstante, 13/2 Chiringuita, 7/1 Aneesah, 12/1 Flying Empress, 14/1 Dessertoflife.
usual Bahaarah
speculative Aneesah

Raaqy could have been a usual selection but I do like to mix it up, after all horse racing is an unpredictable affair. There are not really any outsiders today, and I plumped for Aneesah as the speculative. It could have even been the outside 2.
230 wolves Betting forecast: 2/1 Handbell, 3/1 Jillanar, 3/1 Secret Palace, 6/1 Queen Zain, 14/1 Willow Spring, 20/1 Approaching Star, 20/1 Deacon´s Lady, 33/1 Henrietta Dancer.
usual Secret Palace
speculative Willow Spring

Jillanar or Secret Palace are the obvious selections. Willow Spring is just outside of the outsiders. This is another race in which the market and places would be dominated by the front 4. Yet again, we hope for the unpredictability of horse racing to help us.
315 worcester Betting forecast: 4/9 Ennistown, 9/2 Black Iceman, 11/2 Trader Jack, 20/1 Bumble Bay, 20/1 The Western Force, 20/1 Wintour Leap, 25/1 Beedee, 66/1 Prince Of Silver.
usual Black Iceman
speculative Trader Jack

The last time we saw a shortie, it finished 2nd and we bagged a double figure odds winner. If Ennistown underperforms I hope here that we will be in the ideal position. I suppose we could have gone with a 20/1 selection as the speculative selection but there are 3 of those. A hope the 3 under 20/1 dominate here.
