The football season begins today with the English Championship.

Newcastle will probably lose only a handful of matches this season and are a side I want with me, for sure.

At 2.84 on Betfair, Newcastle are short to be crowned Championship champions. We may get a better run for our money from Aston Villa at odds of about 13.5. That will be my play. Remember this market is In-Play so you can Cash Out if Villa perform well.

I know the Premier League is a week away, but let’s take a look at the markets. Is there a surprise lurking in the title race?

I liked what I saw from Herr Klopp of the Kop and his Liverpool side last season. I think we will see Liverpool scoring 2+ goals in matches with regularity this time around. At odds of 11, Liverpool are value for the title race.

Note that Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City all have new managers. Klopp has his philosophy embedded with players already. I hope it takes time for United, City and Chelsea to get going.

Regarding relegation, Sunderland have hired a manager who has been sacked in his last two jobs. Goodness me, what a CV David Moyes has! 3.9 odds for relegation is not that appealing for Sunderland.

Top at Christmas? Arsenal, surely, at about 7.00 odds. Remember, once January is upon us, Arsenal turn into a Sunday league side and will end up trophyless yet again!

Top scorer? Well, It has been a while since Manchester United have had a proven out-and-out goalscorer of the likes of Van Nistelrooy.

They have one in Ibrahimovic and at 11 odds he is worth investing a couple of shekels in. He will certainly get ample service and is the man to convert.

From goals to a lack of goals… I think Hull, Burnley and Sunderland are my three picks to be the lowest scorers in the Premier League. The market is illiquid as I write.

Those are my season-long punts. Remember you can Cash Out if these bets are producing a profit before season end!

Have a great weekend, I hope you enjoy the new season!
