I thought the Past Winners from last week’s eletter had a good go at it on Saturday!

13:35 Aintree

Last week’s analysis: “A 16/1 and a 20/1 horse each way for me tomorrow in this race. The last four winners have come in this band.”

Talk about a hard luck story! Highland Lodge was a 20/1 selection and was a short head 2nd in this match.

14:10 Aintree

Last week’s analysis: “Skelton and Henderson are the winning trainers in the last four runnings of this race.

“If these two trainers have the favourite running, back it each-way. Three favourites have won in four matches.”

These two trainers did not have the favourite but a Henderson horse finished 2nd at odds of 13/2. There was no Skelton trained horse.

13:55 Sandown

Last week’s analysis: “Paul Nicholls seems to farm this race. He runs Marracudja.”

Marrarudja was the 10/1 horse in this 4 runner race. He finished last.

14:25 Sandown

Last week’s analysis: “The only recent winning favourite was ridden by AP McCoy. Without the great man, I feel we could return to a 7 or 8/1 horse each way.

“These are the odds of 5 of the last 10 winners. These horses are not favourites but not outsiders.”

No favourite won this race so I hope at least that I persuaded you against the favourite. The nearest odds to my 7 or 8/1 shout were two 13/2 horses. One of these horses finished 2nd.

15:00 Sandown

Last week’s analysis: “A race for market leaders. I would back a 3/1 to 5/1 horse each way here.”

This was spot on. The favourite won and a 5/1 horse came a close 2nd.There was no 3/1 horse. Another good shout.

Goodness me, we were a short head away from a 20/1 winner last weekend. What a pity!

I’ll share with you some of the past winners stats for Cheltenham this weekend. (You do have to be a member of www.racingpost.com in order to access the information, or buy the newspaper.)

Try and find patterns yourself and check against the results of the race afterwards.

Remember that with this methodology, we are focusing mostly on the odds of horses rather than the horses’ names.

Hmmm, I wonder how favourites get on in this race above?

And one last example for you…

dec9c
In these tables above, if you are taken by past winners trends, here are a few patterns and sequences to note:

• Is there a specific trainer who consistently wins?

• Note races which have had 10 different trainers and 10 different jockeys winning in the last 10 runnings of the race. This suggests we could oppose the most recent winning trainer and jockey.

• How do the favourites get on historically?

• How do second favourites get on historically?

• Is there a pattern in the odds of recent winners? (Hint, check out that last table for the 13:50 Cheltenham).

Those are the main patterns I look for.  So that’s your homework for this weekend! It’s not that difficult is it? Let me know how you get on.
