Ahh, newsletter week… The one week of the month when I help increase Nescafe’s profits by increasing my caffeine consumption to heart-poundingly high levels.

October’s What Really Wins Money is taking shape, and has a running theme this month: the ‘banker bet’. It’s something I mentioned in recent eletters and something I expand upon this month in the newsletter.

In past eletters I gave you a glimpse of my banker bet strategy and looked into greater details on how to ensure the highest strike-rate you can. I’ve started a ‘Bankers and Blowout’ section at www.whatreallywinsmoney.co.uk for newsletter readers, which lists the short-priced football and tennis for the day.

I also look at laying ‘apparent’ bankers and share with you a currently profitable laying strategy. I additionally offer two keys to laying success when focusing on laying odds-on shots (that is, horses under 2.00 decimal odds at www.betfair.com).

Heck, even the Patriarch has got banker bet fever this month, as he provides an excellent strategy for uncovering strong bets from what he called the ‘collective wisdom’ of the racing correspondents and their tips.

The Statman focuses on the All-Weather tracks at Kempton, Lingfield, Southwell and Wolverhampton and has uncovered a stop-you-in-your-tracks set of stats for each venue. It really makes you think!

There’s the usual ‘Home-grown Systems’ update, and the regular system and tipsters (third-party) updates, making for another hauntingly good read for Hallowe’en.

App-tastic!

I must admit, I’ve never been taken in by the whole needing-an-iPhone shenanigans, and perhaps I’m missing out. But a reader has recently contacted me with a recommendation for this app.

The app provides predictions for 1X2, Half-time, Full-time, Under/Over 2.5 Goals, Correct Score, Goal/No Goal markets – they’re all there, along with relevant stats and prediction reliability.

The reader – Patrick – trades only in certain leagues, and concentrates on late goals being scored in certain matches. He uses a large 15-point betting bank and never lays the current score before the 70th-minute mark.

I am going to try and bribe him with a signed photo of Kelly Brook in order to spill the beans. If he doesn’t oblige, I’ll send him a signed photo of Nora Batty. The app costs a fiver I believe. I will see if there is a compatible app for my phone.

Use it in tandem with the free Soccer Stats Tracker at www.soccerstatstracker.com and you have a couple of bits of kit to help you with your football betting.

If you followed Andrea Atzeni’s rides at Newmarket last weekend, as highlighted in the eletter last Friday, you’ll have been cursing some near misses…

• Seventh at 7/1 in the first race
• Second at 8/1 in the second race
• Ninth at 7/1 in the third race
• Three-quarter-length second in the fourth race at 25/1
• Neck-and-a-head third at 20/1 in the fifth race
• Fourth at 5/1 in the last race

For each way backing, it was a reasonable set of rides with two near misses at 25/1 and 20/1. Is there something to this strategy? Do the ‘Past Winners’ stats uncover jockeys who have a great previous year record at a specific high-profile meeting?

The market thought so on this occasion, with Atzeni riding at least two favourites. Something for me to note, I think, starting with Cheltenham’s meeting this weekend.
