After investigating horse racing trading in August’s edition of What Really Wins Money, I have now got my hands on the trading strategies of Tony Hargreaves, aka The Badger.
He’s safe – as Brian May from Queen will make sure he doesn’t get culled.
His strategies are very interesting and based on reading support and resistance lines. As I said in the newsletter, this is a strategy which can be learned and mastered, and once mastered, you’ll have a skill for life.
So there is plenty of reading for me to do this week to come.
I am a big fan of sports trading as it lessens risk and that is something that appeals to a lot of you.

I’ll give you an example of a recent big winner…
Everton u21 were meeting Liverpool u21: a Merseyside derby for the nippers. Liverpool u21 took a very early 0-3 lead. What do you do?
1-3, 2-3, 2-3. A 1.02 lay success is the same as backing a 50/1 shot!
The same kind of match occurred yesterday and I let DRT members know. The weekend sees the arrival of the Italian and Spanish leagues, which makes my weekend busy, busy, busy!
The York Ebor meeting continues this weekend
There are some high-class races on Saturday. Let’s take a quick look at the past winners for tomorrow’s major races at York…
200pm York – Only one favourite has won in the last six runnings of this race. That winning favourite was a joint-favourite. Can we look elsewhere tomorrow?
I would look for a horse under 8/1 and back each-way. Gm Hopkins is the Mount of Frankie Dettori who has won this race four times recently. I would look to back his horse each-way as he obviously has an affinity with the race.
235 York – As befits a 20-runner race, the favourite has a really poor record here. Five of the last six winners have been 8/1 or 9/1 winners. This suggests that the market gets it right, but the race is too competitive for the favourite. Back an 8/1 or 9/1 horse each way here.
310 York – The Gimtrack is a nine-runner race and therefore an excellent race for each way betting. Only one winning favourite in ten races makes this a race in which you select a 5/1 – 8/1 selection each way. Kevin Ryan has won two of the last three races and runs Areen who, if the price is right, might be worth backing each way.
420 York – This is another nine-runner race and therefore a good each-way race. The last four winners have been either 3/1 or 4/1 so the market gets this race right. Jamie Spencer has won the last three races but does not have a runner.
Only one winning favourite in ten races makes this an excellent each-way race. A 4/1 each way horse for me here (no odds yet).
And before I go…
Did you back Jordan Spieth last week in the PGA? Another excellent performance and second place saw a great tradeable bet for the 10.5 shot. He is now World Number 1.
